If you know a little about the portier story, then you’ll know that every product we design starts with a real-life parenting need. Usually, one that portier founder Lia has experienced herself, and the Brio Belt Toddler Carrier; our latest addition, is no exception. As Lia moved through toddlerhood with her two boys, the natural progression of the portier range to accommodate for that next stage of parenting became apparent. Designed with busy, on-the-move parents in mind, the Brio Belt is a sleek, intuitive toddler carrier that offers freedom and effortless support for when your baby is on the move.

We sat down with Lia, to talk about what inspired her to design this new piece, the key features she prioritised, and why the Brio Belt is a must-have for modern parents.

Q: Why did you decide to introduce the Brio Belt to the portier range?

Lia: “As a parent, you quickly realise that once your baby becomes a toddler, carrying them doesn’t stop - it just changes. They want independence, but they also get tired, need cuddles, or suddenly refuse to walk in the middle of an outing. I wanted to create something that met that in-between stage—a way to carry them, but with more support than just carrying them on your hip. It needed to be ergonomic but also, as with everything we design, it needed to be simple, sleek, comfortable and compliment your outfit. It had to look good as well as be functional, and there wasn’t anything else on the market that met that criteria for me, so we made it ourselves.”

Q: What were the most important factors you considered during the design process?

Lia: “First and foremost, it had to be lightweight, slimline and functional . The Brio Belt had to feel like second nature to wear, something you can throw on quickly, adjust seamlessly and look cool too. Comfort was another big priority. It’s designed to distribute weight evenly, so you’re not straining your arms or back. The fit is snug yet flexible, allowing for movement without compromising support.

The other thing I thought about was the fact that parents are already carrying so much - bags, wipes, snacks etc.. so it was really important to me that the design had to be slimline, no bulk, and I wanted to ensure there was practical storage incorporated too.”

Q: What makes the Brio Belt different from other toddler carriers?

Lia: “I think a lot of parents assume they have to choose between style and function, but I refuse to believe that’s true. The Brio Belt is designed to blend effortlessly into your wardrobe. It’s sleek, modern, and works just as well with your favourite blazer, as we’ve styled it in our campaign shoot, as it does with your activewear and statement sneakers.

Also, it’s built for real life. Whether you’re navigating daycare drop-offs, stopping in at the grocery store, or walking through an airport with a toddler who insists on walking.. until they don’t - the Brio Belt keeps up with you. It’s for those moments when you don’t need a structured carrier, just a quick, easy way to hold your child comfortably, in a way that in turn also gives them the freedom to easily get up and down, because that's the reality of having a toddler! They want to explore."

Final Thoughts: Why will parents love the Brio Belt?

  • It’s lightweight & compact – Easy to wear, easy to store.

  • It’s stylish & minimal – A design that looks as good as it feels.

  • The ergonomic support – Reduces strain on your shoulders.

  • For effortless transitions – Ideal for quick ups and downs.

Whether you're in the middle of a busy day or on a weekend adventure, the Brio Belt moves with you - because parenting never stands still.
