A CONVERSATION WITH FOUNDER, LIA

With every collection, Portier tells a story. Not just of design, but of the moments that shape parenthood, the ones that are often unseen, but deeply felt.

For this release, that story is Equilibrium.

We sat down with founder Lia to talk about the thinking behind the name, the reality of modern parenthood, and why balance was never the goal.

Q: WHAT DOES “EQUILIBRIUM” MEAN TO YOU?

For a long time, I thought equilibrium meant balance, that point where everything feels calm, equal, and under control. But the more I moved through motherhood, the more I realised that version of balance doesn’t really exist. Life doesn’t sit still. It shifts, it pulls, it speeds up. Some days feel manageable, and others feel like everything is happening at once.So for me, equilibrium became something different.

It’s not about everything being perfectly balanced, it’s about finding strength within the movement.

Q: WHY DID THIS IDEA RESONATE WITH YOU RIGHT NOW?

I think because I’ve felt the pressure of trying to “do it all.” As a mother and a sole founder, there’s always this question: how do you balance everything? And the honest answer is—I don’t!

For a long time, that felt like I was failing in some way. But the moment I stopped trying to achieve this perfect version of balance, something shifted. It felt like a weight lifted. I realised I didn’t need to have everything under control, I just needed to move through it in a way that felt right for me.

Q: HOW DOES THAT TRANSLATE INTO THIS COLLECTION?

This collection is really about that feeling. It’s designed for movement, for the days that don’t go to plan, for the moments that overlap, for the reality of modern parenting. The carrier, especially, represents that constant. It's the piece that holds you, quite literally, when everything else feels like it's in motion.

It gives you the freedom to keep going, while still feeling grounded.

Q: YOU OFTEN SPEAK ABOUT “DOING PARENTHOOD YOUR WAY.” HOW DOES THAT CONNECT HERE?

I think there’s so much noise around parenting, so many opinions, expectations, and ideas about how things should be done. And it’s easy to feel like you’re not getting it right. But I’ve learned that the only thing that really matters is trusting your instincts. Equilibrium, for me, is about letting go of the pressure to do it perfectly, and instead moving through it on your own terms.

Q: WHAT DO YOU HOPE PEOPLE FEEL WHEN THEY WEAR THIS COLLECTION?

I hope they feel grounded and empowered. Not just physically, but emotionally. Like they can move through their day with confidence, even when things feel chaotic or uncertain. I want them to feel capable. They have this, even on the days that don't feel easy.
